RESSLER, JOHN (1850-1925) & ELIZABETH (1855-1925)

According to a paper that grandma gave me years ago, John M. Ressler was born in Nov. 1850 and died March 1925.  He married Elizabeth Yost (b. Sept. 1855/d. April 1925).  Both are buried at New Providence Mennonite Cemetery.  Their children were: Harry  (b. 1877/d. 1941), Mary E. (b. 1878/d. 1897), Daniel Y. (b. 1880/ d. 1954), Frank Y. (b. 1882/d. 1979), Omar (b. 1884/d. 1888) and Estella M. (b. 1890/ d. 1969).

According to grandma, the family gossip was that John and Elizabeth had died closely time-wise because another relative (a son?) wanted the family farm and the only way to do that was to get John out of the way, so when he was already sick and in bed, this mysterious relative opened the windows all the way during the cold weather  and John ended up with pneumonia and died.  Grandma stated then that it was only family gossip and she did not know for sure.

The below gravestone photo is courtesy of www.findagrave.com.  They are buried in New Providence Mennonite Cemetery, New Providence, PA.
The obit of Anna Elizabeth (Yost) Ressler published in a Lancaster newspaper on 22 April 1925:

GARNER,RALPH & REBA (25TH ANNIVERSARY)

Ralph & Reba (Ressler) Garner celebrating 25 years of marriage.  Photos taken 03 March 1960. The pastor who married them is in the top photo.  Reba's sister Anna and her brother Clarence were witnesses for the marriage. They would also be able to with Ralph and Reba for their 50th anniversary in 1985.

RESSLER,MARY (1903 - ?) & GARNER, REBA (1913-1996)

This photo was taken in southern Lancaster County, PA of Mary (Ressler) Ressler and Reba (Ressler) Garner in Feb. 1985.  Mary was the oldest sister of Reba and she was born in 1903.  Mary married Harry Herr Miller (1901-1963) and they had  Calvin (b. 1924), Lloyd (b. 1927) , and Paul (b. 1930).  After Harry died, her second marriage was to Clair R. Ressler (a first cousin). According to family gossip, Clair and Mary were allowed by Lancaster County to marry since at Mary's age, they could not have children.

Clair Reed Ressler (1900 - 1971) was the son of Harry and Minnie (Reed) Ressler.  Clair married Martha J. Martin (1899 - 1966) and they had Elma (b. 1919), Thelma (b. 1919), Anna (b. 1922), Rhoda (b. 1927), Martha (b. 1929), Ruth (b. 1933), Clair M. (b. 1936), Norma (b. 1938), and Gerald (b. 1943).

GARNER, REBA & RALPH - 1983

Reba and Ralph Garner on the beach in Florida in early June 1983.  In the last few years of their lives they were able to travel a little just for the fun of it.  I love this photo of them.
