BESSIE APPLEBACH 1889

BESSIE APPLEBACH 1889 - An article in the Lancaster Daily Intelligencer on Dec. 24, 1889 "The Day Before Christmas: Pupils of the Schools Hold the Most Enjoyable Entertainment" lists Bessie Applebach among many other children in a play and preforming songs for a school production at Miss Lizzie Ebay's school. Bessie was the daughter of Abraham and Lizzie Applebach. KATRYNE "KATE" GARNER

Image
KATRYNE "KATE" GARNER was a daughter of Charles and Elizabeth (Musselman) Garner and she married Earl Lightcap.  One of their children was Thelma, who married John Andrew Ressler - the son of Frank and Bertha Ressler and younger brother to my grandma Reba (Ressler) Garner.  I do remember a few comments about all the kids of those 2 marriages being double cousins, and the joking that went with it at family reunions. Earl and Katryne are buried at Mechanic Grove Church of the Brethren Cemetery in Quarryville, PA only a few stones from her parents.  Photo is from www.findagrave.com

ELIZABETH (LITTLE) APPLEBACH 1850-1931

Image
ELIZABETH (LITTLE) APPLEBACH 1850-1931: Per the 1860 PA Census (Landisville, East Hempstead Township): Samuel Little, age 66, a farm laborer, born in PA Elizabeth Little, age 60, keeping house, born in PA Calvin Little, age 22, farm laborer, born in PA Elizabeth Little, age 20, born in PA Abram Perry, age 2 months, born in PA John Dutt, age 8, born in PA My note: I do not at this point know who the 2 children are or what the relationship is. The Lancaster Daily Intelligencer of Aug. 29, 1889 mentions Elizabeth Applebach very casually in an article "A Stable Destroyed" about a barn fire.  Apparently Abraham and Elizabeth were renting a barn at 761 N. Lime St, Lancaster and it caught fire - and over $300 worth of bundled rags were destroyed.  The article goes on to say that it might have been set by a tramp who was turned away without a meal earlier. 1913 Lancaster, PA Directory:  (pg. 233) Elizabeth Applebach (widow of Abraham) is listed as living at 431 N. Mar

HENRY YOST, JR. (1826-1913)

Image
HENRY YOST, JR. (1826-1913): The first mention of Henry Yost that I have found is in the 1850 Pennsylvania census for Lancaster.  He is listed as living in the household of Barbara Brimmer. He is listed as age 23 and a laborer. Also listed in the same household is Reuben Yost, age 21 and a house painter (I don't know if or what the relationship between these 2 Yost men may have been yet). Both of them are listed as born in Pennsylvania. In the family Bible of Henry Yost is listed that he married Barbara Caskey 14 November 1854 by G. Fred Krotel, the pastor at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Lancaster, PA. Barbara Caskey is listed as the daughter of Barbara Brimmer. In the 1860 census, Henry is listed as 30, living in East Lampeter Township (Lancaster County) and being a laborer.  His wife Barbara is 29, Anna Elizabeth (my gr-gr-gr grandmother) was 4, Benjamin was 3, and Emma was 1. In the June 1863 Pennsylvania Civil War Draft Registration (pg. 284) he is listed as living in

LAZARUS & ELIZABETH WOLF'S CHILDREN:

LAZARUS & ELIZABETH WOLF'S CHILDREN: Per my handwritten notes from an interview with Dorothy Wolf in March 1986, these are the children she remembered them having.  She stated she did not remember the birth order and thought there were others she was forgetting because she thought there should be 17 names.  I have 2 elderly aunts still living and they confirm these names are correct, but are not sure if they are all there was. Horace - Terre Hill Francis - Shillington Arthur - Reamstown Alice (Weller) - Akron Jennie (Fair) - Lincoln Elizabeth (Mull) - Ephrata Emma (Eckenrode) -  Shillington Edna (Faust) - Reamstown Lydia Anne ( Reddig) - Reamstown Issac - Lancaster Mary Ida (Hahn, Stover) - Terre Hill Dorothy Wolf stated in the same interview that some children of John and Mary Ida (Wolf) Stover were: Jennie (my grandmother) Elasta Lottie Edna Wes (Sylvester?) Mary's son by her first husband - Irvin/Ervin Hahn

LAZARUS WOLF

Image
LAZARUS WOLF: The first listing I have found of Lazarus Wolf was in the 1850 census when he is listed as living with his parents and several siblings.  He was born sometime between 1841-1844 depending on the source of material.  In the 1850 Pennsylvania census (Brecknock in Lancaster Co.) his father Michael is 36, his mother Lydia (another source says her maiden name was Ulrich) is 30, Lazarus is 8, Elizabeth is 7, Michael is 5, Lydia is 2, and Magdalene is listed as 0. In the tax list for Pennsylvania of Jan. 1, 1864 he is listed as living in East Earl township, cigars is listed as his occupation, and the tax due appears to be $12.80. In the tax list for Pennsylvania of March 1864, he is listed as living in Terre Hill (E. Earl Township) and under the column for article or occupation is listed 2 cows, with a tax due of $ 0.80.  There is a Michael Wolf (Father? Brother?) listed 2 lines above him  that has fish _______ (I can't read the second word) in the article or occupation

LAZARUS WOLF

Image
Reading, PA 1919: Mary (Wolf) Stetler (Francis Wolf's daughter), Lazarus Wolf, Francis Wolf (son), Ruth Stetler (daughter of Mary Stetler) - 4 Generations (used with permission by from J. Simons 10/17/2014) Lazarus Wolf and ?? probably on family picnic in the 1920's.  (used by permission of J. Simons) August 8, 2017: I found this above photo on Ancestry and it is believed to be Elizabeth (Newpher) and Lazarus Wolf - I am guessing circa 1880's.  The man certainly looks like the other photos of Lazarus.  I was given a copy of this photo several years ago and told it was Lazarus and a sister circa 1920. Imagine my surprise to see in Ancestry as Lazarus and Elizabeth Newpher - there is no way due to the clothing styles - Elizabeth died in 1898.  Lazarus had several sisters, but I have no idea which one this would be.  I am going to go with what I was told - that this is Lazarus and a sister.  Does anyone out there know more about this photo or which sister

The woman beside Martha was Reba (Ressler) Garner -  sister of Martha, and the light haired man behind Reba was Andrew Ressler - younger brother of Martha and Reba. The little girl standing in front of Reba is Reba's daughter Pauline. I personally do not know who any of the others are. Addition: My mother looked at this photo over Thanksgiving 2014, and commented that she wandered why the fathers of the groom and bride were on the wrong side in
