John A. "Andy" Ressler, 94, of Lancaster, passed away on Tuesday, ­February 11, 2014. He was a resident of Evergreen Estates Retirement Community. He was the loving husband of the late Thelma M. (Lightcap) Ressler and Marion (Meikrantz) Ressler.

 Born in New Providence, PA, he was the son of the late Frank Y. and Anna B. (Findley) Ressler.He proudly served in the US Army during WWII. After the war, Andy went on to own and operate Ressler's TV & Refrigeration in Lancaster.
 
In his spare time, he enjoyed golf and in his later years spent time bowling. He was a member and past President of the Manor Ridge Lions Club. At Evergreen, Andy enjoyed pool, exercise class and bowling.

He is survived by two sons: John A. Ressler married to Anna (Rohrer) of Williamsport; and Michael W. Ressler, married to Ellen (Vonderschmidt) of Doylestown and one grandchild, Alexander. He is also survived by his brother, ­Victor Ressler of Paris, TX.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Funeral Service at Kearney A. Snyder Funeral Home, 141 E. Orange St., Lancaster, PA 17602, on Monday, February 17, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. A viewing will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Interment in Millersville Mennonite Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Lions Club International Foundation, 300 W. 22nd St., Oak Brook, IL 60523. To leave an online condolence for the family, please visit:

In the January 1993 issue of Mennonite Family History Magazine was the below article on the family of Jacob & Susanna Ressler focusing on the line of Samuel Ressler (1804-1876). To be truthful, I am not very familiar with this line as I am descended through the next older boy, Daniel (1802-1901).  However, there are a couple things in the article I would like to correct or add to, so please continue to read below the nice article. 1. AFFLERBACH HOUSE IN GERMANY

This is the Afflerbach (Applebach) family home in Womelsdorf, Germany.  The farm has been passed down thru the generations to various family members and is still in the family.  When this photo was taken in May 1978, the resident was Karl Afflerbach.  While I lived in Germany, I visited with he and his wife and ate meals with them.  They proudly showed me the dark, low ceiling rooms that had been the original house back in the 1500's.  In Germany, houses used to be named and this one is the "Kraemershaus".
