RESSLER FAMILY PHOTO circa 1924-1925

I have no idea what the occasion of this photo was or where it was taken.  The date is based on Clair & Martha RESSLER children sizes. Grandma wrote the names on the back of the photo, and I filled in what birth/death dates I knew.  

Yes, the original photo is safe and sound.

JUST THOUGHTS.......

I have been working a lot lately on my RESSLER line - mostly because I am the most familiar with it. Grandma made a point to talk to me about it and take me to the cemeteries where her ancestors were buried in Lancaster County. 

Jacob RESSLER who married Susanna BOEHM/BEAM was the son of  Revolutionary War veteran Johann "John" ROESSLER/RESSLER, which makes me eligible to join the DAR if I choose. I have filled out the application, so time will tell if I have enough supporting documentation.

Another question that has been flitting around in the back of my mind for many years has to do with the naming of Abraham and Lizzie APPLEBACH's boys - as in Sherman, Winfield Scott, and Zachary Taylor. 

At first I thought maybe they were all officers in the Mexican War but that only applies to Scott and Taylor. Sherman was in the Civil War. Their life dates somewhat overlap each other. 

Looking at Abraham APPLEBACH's life itself, his father could possibly have been in the Mexican War but so far I have found no evidence of it.  

However, Abraham did not live that much with his father if the census and family stories are to be believed, so could there have been an older man in his life that had some connection or liking for these 3 men and passed that liking onto Abraham? 

Could Abraham himself liked military history and liked these 3 officers in particular? Why wasn't the oldest boy, John, named for a famous officer? I guess I have more questions then answers at this point - any suggestions someone? 

Or it is possible Lizzie APPLEBACH had a reason to name her sons the way she did - maybe a relative who was in the military or relatives named for famous soldiers?

Finally, I have few clues and am looking for more information on the parents of  Barbara CASKEY - she died in 1870 in Lancaster.  

She is usually listed as being the daughter of Barbara BRIMMER, however, this woman was probably a relative but not her mother. James CASKEY was her father. The family story is that Barbara CASKEY's parents died (in an epidemic?) and all the siblings were farmed out to other relatives. Does anyone have some ideas?

JOHN APPLEBACH - died 1943

This is simply a collection of articles and documents that I have found on John APPLEBACH, who was the son of Abraham & Elizabeth (LITTLE) APPLEBACH.  My father remembered his singing voice and that he caned seats for a living.

JENNIE (STOVER) APPLEBACH death certificate

I recently found a copy of my paternal grandmother's death certificate on Ancestry.

Jennie had heart problems. Add to that 8 known pregnancies (remember the last pregnancy was twins) and years of hard work. Her health was not good and she died in 1962 at the age of 67.

Considering Pop's attitude and personal history, her adult life could not have been easy. Aunt Fran told me once that she remembered her mom trying to separate from Pop. 

The two oldest boys went into the military to get away from him. The girls got pregnant and then married to get away from Pop. 

My father adored his mom, but was not close to his father. I personally think that part of the reason James Applebach moved west was to get away from his father - especially once his mom was dead.

ABRAHAM APPLEBACH - in the news

Lancaster Intelligencer Sept. 9, 1881:

I have discovered that many libraries have a subscription to Newspapers.com that can be accessed at the library or with a library card.

I am sure that this is a resource I will use a lot to gather information on the social events in my relatives lives.

As a family historian, I want more information on my ancestors than just names and dates.

LAZARUS WOLF DEATH CERTIFICATE

Using Ancestry through my local library has opened all kinds of possibilities for getting so much more family information.

I recently found the death certificate for Lazarus WOLF on Ancestry.

If the info on the certificate is correct, his mother's maiden name was ULRICH - which I did not know before.
