Romaine E. Flanagan, 88, a resident of the Mennonite Home, passed
away on Sunday, April 22, 2012 at the Essa Flory Hospice Center after a lengthy
illness. Her husband of 41 years, the late William H. "Red" Flanagan,
died in 2004.
Born in Lancaster on April 13, 1924, she was the
daughter of the late Taylor Z. and Jennie C. (Stover) Applebach. A lifelong
Christian, she was a 75-year member of Covenant United Methodist Church in
Lancaster. Romaine also was a 1942 graduate of McCaskey High School.
Feisty and independent, she always enjoyed
working outside the home and was employed at RCA; the former Clark's Diner, Ernie's
Diner, and Stauffer's Diner; Dutch Haven; the old Dunkin Donuts on Columbia
Ave.; K-Mart, and J. C. Penney at Park City. In her seventies, she decided to
return to work at the CVS Pharmacy in Willow Valley Square.
She will be missed by her five children, G.
Keith Perry, husband of Patricia, Millersville; Douglas Perry, husband of
Leslie, Newport News, VA; Bruce Perry, husband of Carol, Washington Boro;
Jennifer Engle, wife of Dennis, Lancaster; and Carol Sillaman, wife of James,
Leola. She also is survived by ten grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and
one great-great grandchild. Her sisters, Frances Woods, Lancaster, and June
Kann, wife of Ray, Willow Street, as well as her sister-in-law, Betty
Applebach, Lititz, also survive. She was predeceased by her three brothers,
Varge, Paul and James Applebach, and a great-grandchild.
Romaine's family would like to thank the staff
of the Mennonite Home, especially the team from Goods Run, as well as the
caring staff and volunteers from Hospice, for their skilled and compassionate
care during her residence and final illness.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at
the Covenant United Methodist Church, 110 N. Mulberry St., Lancaster, PA 17603
on FRIDAY, April 27, 2012 at 11 AM. The family will receive friends at the
church on FRIDAY between 10 and 11 AM. Interment will be in the Conestoga
Memorial Park, Lancaster, PA. Kindly omit flowers. Memorial Remembrances can be
made in Romaine's memory to the Covenant United Methodist Church, 110 N.

I thank you for all the posts regarding Applebach. I remember aunt Romaine attending my father’s funeral in Texas. She was a welcomed representative of the Pennsylvania family
ReplyDeleteAunt Romaine was a neat lady. She could out ride any of us kids on the rides at Hershey Park. My favorite memories of her were getting to eat apple dumplings for breakfast and catching fireflies in the evening, but having to release them the next morning before breakfast when we got to stay over night with her.
