He was the son of Abraham and Lizzy (Elizabeth Little) Applebach. He was born 2/14/1883 in Lancaster Co., PA and died 4/26/1922. He is buried at Millersville Mennonite Cemetery. At time of death he lived in Lancaster, PA. According to a family story he was named after a general in a "recent" (Civil War?) war.
According to the marriage license docket, he married Amelia Dornes (Dorner?), age 19 from West Cocalico Twp. on May 17, 1901 daughter of Martin Dornes (Dorner?). He says his job is "tobacco warehouse workman". Sherman and Amelia are listed as living at 424 N. Concord, Lancaster in 1909. They divorced on Jan. 13, 1912 on grounds of desertion (nothing is said about who deserted who).
Sherman married a second time to May Brown on 10/4/1912 - both are listed as born and residing in Lancaster, PA. On the marriage certificate he lists his job as "driver".
I have never heard or seen anything saying that there were children by either marriage, but his obit (below) lists a daughter, Emma O. Applebach. By older family members he was remembered as being a rough and tumble drunk who drank himself into an early grave.
